Just as the Los Angeles Lakers make major moves to acquire LeBron James, the Golden State Warriors dropped the biggest bomb of the free agency so far. In a strong rebuttal to the Lakers, the Golden State Warriors reached a deal with elite Center Demarcus Cousins. The deal is worth a reported $5.3 million for 1-year of Cousins services according to ESPN.
The now former New Orleans Pelican suffered an Achilles injury that sidelined him for the remainder of the season. The injury took place shortly before the all-star weekend which was a devastating blow to a potentially elite Western Conference team led by fellow former Kentucky Wildcats Anthony Davis and Rajon Rondo. Without “Boogie” Cousins, the Pelicans still reached the second round of the Playoffs but got bumped by Boogie’s new team.
As if they weren’t before, the back-to-back championship Warriors are now a seemingly unstoppable force with a starting five full of All-Star level talent. This signing comes shortly after reports that the Warriors Center JaVale McGee would be joining LeBron and the newly revamped Lakers who also acquired Lance Stephenson from the free agency.
Steph Curry commented on the acquisition on Twitter saying, “The third splash brother…” followed by seven tearful laughter emojis. With Boogie at the 5, the Warriors seem to be well poised for their third consecutive championship in a row.
As for the Pelicans, with now Rondo and Cousins gone from the roster, that leaves Anthony Davis back in a familiar situation with no support. A.D. is currently on year 2 of his 5-year $145 million contracts with the Pelicans. In 2020, A.D. if he so chooses could opt out of his deal with the Pelicans and finish the last year of his deal with another team.
The Pelicans recently acquired Julius Randle in a 2-year $18 million deal after he was let go by the Lakers. Twitter responded immediately to the major signing.
We joked about the Warriors signing Dwight Howard and they said screw yโall and signed DeMarcus. COUSINS.

Sorry the Warriors keep playing chess while the rest of the league is playing checkers. I love that they find new ways to aggravate #ItsNotFairTwitter
