A recent Florida lottery winner, Timothy Poole, was released from prison in 2006 after having served five years for the sexual assault of two boys under the age of 12.  Prior to that, he was arrested in 1991 for the grand theft of nearly $20,000 in food stamps from a former employer.

A clear shame to the state, the Florida lottery deleted the winner’s picture from their website.  According to the Orlando Sentinel, many local residents have expresed anger over Poole’s windfall.  However, Samantha Andrews of the Florida Department of Law Enforcement explained, “There are no registration laws that would prevent that [the collection of winnings], but if that offender was under supervision or on probation there could be additional sanctions imposed by the judge.”

The week of December 10, 2014, Poole accepted a one-time lump sum pay out of $2,219,807.90.
