It may sound ridiculous, but on Friday, December 12, 2014, a half-ton heifer jumped a six-foot fence in a desperate attempt at freedom from the Anderson Custom meat processing plant in Pocatello, Idaho.  Police joined animal control authorities in trying to stop the animal during a long chase along Pocatello’s north side.

Animal rights activists are bound to question police rationale in shooting and killing the cow.  However, the pursuit became exceedingly dangerous as the animal reportedly rammed two patrol vehicles and an animal control truck before running across a children’s playground.  When the cow went into a local resident’s backyard, police took their chance to shoot it in the head with the hopes of taking it down.  The cow ran off again after the first shot and barreled through a police road block.

Seeking respite for a second time in a different back yard, police were able to corner the cow again and deliver a second shot, at which time, it died instantly.  Anderson Custom meat processors came for the dead animal and returned it to the plant.
