Following the breakthrough success of his 1999 mixtape, Joey Bada$$ had a lot to live up to. He was hailed as the rebirth of traditional New York Hip Hop, and counted legends, like DJ Premiere, as his cosigners. Summer Knights delivered and then some, as his growth was apparent right from the beginning. While he didn’t move too far away from the boom bap sound that birthed him, he did manage to explore it in new and unique ways. It was enough to keep fans anxious to see what his next moves will be.
