It’s quite possible that the best (or at least most loved) verse on Kendrick Lamar’s now almost universally agreed upon classic album Good Kid M.A.A.D City may not come from Kendrick at all but from TDE’s most senior member Jay Rock; on the haunting and hard hitting “Money Trees”. Similar to the way AZ used the acclaim of his guest verse on Nas’s “Life’s a Bitch” from the 90’s masterpiece Illmatic; Rock managed to keep his momentum going in 2013 without releasing nearly any material at all.

This isn’t Jay Rock‘s first go around though, in 2011 he released the highly underrated Follow Me Home through a deal with Independent powerhouse Strange Music (home to Tech N9ne), who from all accounts will still handle the distribution on his impending release. With TDE’s CEO Punch vowing that 2014 will see the hottest crew in the game release 6 albums (one for every member) the question has become, after Schoolboy Q’s Oxymoron (coming Feb 25th) drops, will the next release be courtesy of the gangster wordsmith from Watts- Jay Rock?
