In 2011, with a new CEO at the reigns and  Sha Money XL, Benny Pough and Traci Adams making powerful decisions, Epic Records reclaimed its stake as one of hip-hop’s important stables. Beginning with the launching of Atlanta upstart Future’s debut album, Pluto, Sony’s iconic record label began its ascent. Furthermore, forgotten hip-hop figures Yo Gotti and Ciara experienced career resurgences, with C returning to the top of the charts, and Gotti releasing what will quite possibly be the most successful single of his career. Not to mention, in keeping with rap’s youth movement, inking deals with G.O.O.D. Music rapper/producer Travi$ Scott, and undertaking Sylvia Rhone’s Vested In Culture imprint, which houses Roc Nation’s youngest-in-charge Casey Veggies, it’s becoming apparent that Epic Record’s is preparing for another long and epic (pun intended) run at the forefront of mainstream music. -Khari Nixon
